Video Part 1

  • A personal computer (PC) is a multi-purpose computer designed for individual use. PCs are relatively inexpensive and easy to operate.
  • The main components of a PC are:
    • Case: The enclosure that houses the other components of the PC.
    • Power supply: Converts mains AC to low-voltage DC power for the internal components of a computer.
    • Motherboard: The main circuit board that connects all the other components. It allows communication between the CPU, RAM, and all other hardware components.
    • CPU (central processing unit): The brain of the computer that handles all instructions.
    • Memory (RAM and ROM): RAM stores data temporarily, while ROM stores data permanently.
    • Adapter cards: These are used to extend the functionality of the computer. They connect to the motherboard through expansion slots.
    • Storage devices: These are used to store data permanently. They can be internal or external.
    • Video ports: These connect the computer to a display device.
    • General ports: These provide connectivity between the motherboard and various external devices.
  • When selecting computer components, it is important to consider compatibility. For example, the motherboard, CPU, case, and memory should all be compatible with each other.
